Ruined by MeckanicalMind Ruined by MeckanicalMind
Self explanatory. This is an ancient place...

If the Romans had aqueducts, why cant some ancient civilizations have had sky ways?

I hope they did, we just haven't found them yet.

You should do one of those Vimeo clips explaining your process. It would be very helpful to prospective concept artists like myself ;)

The light´s really great, especially in the distance. It transports a good athmosphere of a really huge civilization.

Skyways make sense, if they had some pressing need not to travel on the ground.
Still looks cool, though. Which is also as much rationalization as any fantasy art needs.

I like the colour mix in this one, nice vegetation/ancient buildings

This is amazing Colin. The skyway looks more typically sci-fi than the more ancient-looking ruins below, but that makes the potential backstory even cooler. Like maybe this explorer is among the bones of a civilization so long dead that there are ruins spanning hundreds of millenia side by side.

Historologically, it's nowhere beyond their abilities...but no ancient civilizations had enough population density or traffic to warrant such a massive undertaking.

(btw, historologically is a portmanteau of historically and logically, so don't go lambasting me for made up words XP)

Not to mention the aqueducts were only possible via the arch to support it and this has none. D:

The structures in that image would have required something like reinforced concrete, true, but again, they were capable of it.

Were or weren't? I thought you said no before.

I don't see how they would be necessary since for the most part a lot of the land was natural. There wasn't a city or town taking over ALL of the land in every inch. There were lots of towns cities and villages but they were apart.

I don't want to dump on the guys imagination though. I mean, its kind of a cool idea.

I think I said yes before, they just didn't have the population density to justify it.

It is an awesome idea, I just want to figure out how it would work. :B

Before you said it was past their abilities this time you said they could do it.

Yeah. Maybe major route that multiple countries went through (for trade) but at that point you might as well just make a paved trail on the ground assuming theres no plans to try to scale mountains.
seltaya Featured By Owner Oct 20, 2010
I can see a skyway being useful for going through existing dense population centers or over bad road terrain, swamps and such.

Yeah but that thing is way up there and looks like it would span for miles. D:

Looks like something you would see in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

I really like the colors in this one!

Got a pretty good grip on color/saturation/hue/value/composition, don't you? Haha. You freaking rule.

I like the concept. I may have to use it for a sci-fi story of mine. Good work, too.
